Department of Urdu

Urdu is the representative language of the Muslims of the sub-continent and the national language of Pakistan. It is a rich source of Muslim culture and literature and has a precious intellectual heritage.
The Department of Urdu was established in 1928 with a view to promote its language and literature. Initially it was a research department which later developed into a full-fledged department in 1948 and started M.A. classes regularly. Recently the department has started its evening classes in M.A. and a Ph.D. class (Morning) with a rich, comprehensive syllabus. The Department of Urdu, in its progressive quest has not only established liaisons with its counter parts in other universities but has also proved a source of inspiration for foreign students. During the year it holds Certificate, Diploma and Advanced Diploma classes regularly, catering to the needs of the foreign students. The Department is going to start its M. Phil classes shortly.
